Do you overdo the don'ts?

Don’t Keep reading!

Don’t Pay attention to other people!

Don’t Take the time to consider your options!

Excellent, you have got this far without listening to a word I wrote.

Your children do the same.

The word ‘DON’T’ is an attention grabber. Especially for those who want to explore, push the boundaries and make their own decisions. Or if you are a child who is still learning about this thing called language.

The problem with Don’t’ is that it is akin to ‘hey you’ or ‘oi’, they forget the first word, and focus on the rest of what you say.

If you want people to listen to you, then consider what you want from the conversation, not what you don’t want!

Verbs and nouns form much stronger pictures in our heads than those pesky do’s and don’ts. If you want to help your child make sensible decisions, then help paint the right picture.
