At the weekend I spoke to my eldest. She is rapidly approaching the end of her second year at Uni.
I asked if this year was better or worse than last year.
She said just different, but she was glad that last year was an introduction to living away from home.
“So it was good to be able to learn how to do your own washing in the first year, and have the cooking and cleaning done for you?”
“Yep, I didn’t realise that I needed to work out answers to questions like when to vacuum the floor, how much food I need to buy, and what time I need to leave to get to lectures on time!”
“Welcome to the world of adulating!”
My youngest is not looking to go to Uni, but I have already started to sow the seed of annoyance, which is responsibility and expectation. We will see if they take root, or if she will look to branch out on her own elsewhere.
If you have young ones who are heading out into the big wide world, I wish you and them well.
What messages of wisdom do you have for youngsters entering the big wide world?
