Parenting Requires Perseverance!

After four years of part‑time study, I completed a Diploma in Not‑for‑Profit Management. Later that same year, I was made redundant. It was a turning point which pushed me to create TrainingU2BU and invest more deeply in my writing. That’s when my first book, Parenting Gets Personal, was published.
A short‑term assignment followed, and once again I found myself with time on my hands. Instead of slowing down, I kept writing. A year later, Parenting Moves People was released.
Still searching for full‑time work, I trained as an Early and Middle Years Parenting Place facilitator and completed an eight‑day Masters Outward Bound course. Those experiences gave me fresh energy, new tools, and a renewed sense of purpose. They also reminded me that parenting — more than anything else — requires perseverance.

This book grew from that season of grit, growth, and determination.
Parenting Requires Perseverance explores the skills and mindsets that help families stay steady through challenges, change, and the everyday ups and downs of raising children. These ideas are grounded in real‑life experience and shaped by years of training, facilitation, and being a parent.
Inside, you’ll find practical guidance on:
-
Building resilience — supporting your child’s emotional strength
-
Planning — creating structure that helps everyone thrive
-
Making memories — being intentional about the moments that matter
-
Beating bullies — tools for confidence and self‑advocacy
-
Continuing to communicate — staying connected even when life gets busy

“Parenting Requires Perseverance is another fantastic book in the series. Ruth manages to bring a light-hearted and practical view to parenting that is easy to relate to and entertaining to read. Anyone who is a parent will recognise some of themselves in these experiences and will laugh along with the learnings shared. Ruth is one of the few people to write a parenting book that is honest enough to also discuss what hasn’t worked, rather than just preaching the ‘right’ way. Additionally, many of the lessons shared by Ruth are not just valuable for parenting, but also for everyday life, as we follow her journey learning alongside her children while dealing with whatever life throws her way.” D Johnson
